Brooks LTD Fleece 1/2 Zip Celtic Solstice Premium

This Lightweight Thermal Device micro-fleece was built with chilly Runday mornings in mind; sporting it either for a run or sipping coffee at your favorite café, is your choice. We selected this as a complement to the 2006 base layer shirt and the 2007 outer layer jacket. You can wear this on its own on cool days, or as a mid-layer on really cold days.

Premium Details: This fleece pulluover was built with chilly Runday mornings in mind; sporting it either for a run or sipping coffee at your favorite café, is your choice. The weight of the fleece is perfect as a post-run weararound on cool days, or as an mid-layer on wintry arctic days. The pullover is a custom factory make-up for this event only. It is a dark blue for men or indigo for women with contrasting side stitching. These will complement almost anything you happen to match from blue jeans to track pants.
Special Orders: There will be no special orders of this premium post-race. We ordered two thousand this year, and expect to sell completely through once again, so register early.
The course: The course starts with a brief uphill climb that will elevate your heartrate, but then settles into a fairly flat route with a slight uphill grade to the Mansion House intersection. Turnaround at the arboreteum and return to Druid Lake, flat around the lake, and a downhill finish.
Is this anything like the Dreaded Druid Hills?: No. This course is a gently rolling course through Baltimore's famed Druid Hill Park with spectacular vistas of the city and the park. The Summertime Dreaded Druid Hills race take runners into the wicked hills in the backside of the park. These hills area avoided altogether during the Winter Solstice, primarily because the prospect of ice on the course in the back hills would make the event unrunnable. Check back this summer if you want a true challenge.
Directions: From I 83 take Exit 7 28th Street/Druid Lake Drive Exit.  Follow signs to the Maryland Zoo.  After you get to the end of the lake, make a right turn onto Swann Drive.  Go through the first three-way stop sign.  At the second three-way stop sign turn left into Mansion House Drive.  Park Staff will direct you to parking, and we will have a shuttle bus to take you to the starting area about a mile away.
Packet Pickup: Pre-Race Packet Pickup will be held at the Falls Road Running Store the week of December 13 through  Friday December 19, from during business hours.  The goal is to distribute as many packets as possible to alleviate race day congestion at the Parks and People Foundation. The Falls Road Running Store is located at 6247 Falls Road, which is the building behind 6305 Falls Road, 1 1/2 miles north of Northern Parkway and 3 miles south of I-695.
Special Premium Pre-race pickup locations Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th, pre-registered runners who are in the database by December 7th may pick up their premium at designated locations. Pacers in Arlington (Clarendon Metro Stop) and Silver Spring will have jackets for pre-registered residents of DC/Nova and Montgomery C County at those stores.  Fleet Feet - Annapolis will host the Annapolis area.   Howard County residents may pick-up their jackets at Feet First in Columbia the same weekend.  You will be emailed instructions and a listed of runners with their pick-up location will be posted on this page.
Invited Runners If you run at a level that you believe qualifies you to be an invited runner, email jim@baltimorerunning.com with details.  Past race winners automatically qualify.
Kilts: Kilts are available at the Falls Road Running Store and may be rented for $20 or purchased for $30.
$47 pre-registered with premium
$ 50 RACE DAY (if available)
$ 12 Untimed Fun Run (as of 12/8, prior to that it was timed)
$15 Race day

ChampionChip Timing - The Celtic Solstice Five-Miler used to have an arrangement with RRCA Club Annapolis Striders to utilize their Championchip Timing system at a significant discount.  The Striders no longer utilize that system and we have had to contract the race out, which raised the cost for 2008.

The start and finish of the race is on the I-83 overpass on Wyman Park Drive just outside of Druid Hill Park. The serpentine course winds through the "Bowl", heads to the Arboreteum, and returns around Druid Lake, the Moorish Tower, to a downhill finish.

Maryland RRCA Grand Prix Series - The Celtic Solstice is the final event of the  Maryland RRCA Grand PRix Series.  For more information about the series, visit the Maryland RRCA site.
