"Put Me in Coach, I'm Ready to Play"
John Fogerty - In the late 60's and early 70's no band dominated the radio
waves like Creedence Clearwater Revival. His distinctive growl and unique
guitar defined a sound that rocked a generation. And with his plaid shirts
and no-drugs stance, he gave many of us a musical role model when the rest of
the stars of the day were heavily and obviously into experimental drugs.
"Talk about two concepts colliding. I was
thinking Americana, and he was talking psychedelia." John Fogerty, talking about
'Lodi'.
His guitar playing is unique...as Les Paul once said about aspiring guitarists, "Could your mama recognize you on the radio?" Whatever that talent is, it is exceedingly, exceptionally rare, and Fogerty has it, has it to the point that many people can recognize his playing on the radio by hearing just a single note.
So here are some links, stories, and guitar tabs about my favorite singer/songwriter/musician. He may not be the best singer, but he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He beat out Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, and U2 at the 1998 Grammies to win Best Rock Album of 1997 for his "Blue Moon Swamp". He may not be the best songwriter, but he has been inducted into the American Songwriters Hall of Fame. He may not the best guitarist, but he has been awarded the Orville Gibson Award for Lifetime Achievement. When you put the total package together, well, you have to admit that God blessed him with some very special talents.
