Some Running History

I thought I would list some of my running background on this personal area - some people ask.

I have enjoyed running since elementary school, ran high school track, and then ran while I was in the Army.  Since I spent alot of time in the 82nd Airborne Division and 7th Special Forces, I was lucky to be assigned to units where running alot of miles during "PT" was part of the culture.  After I got married and moved to Baltimore, priorities and commuting time changed, and I got out of it.  One day I looked at myself in the mirror, then got on the scales, and thought, "This is not the way Airborne Rangers stay in shape."  So I started out on the road again, running a little, walking some, running some, walking some, and then I found out about a 5K road race, and I was hooked.  I began running 5K's then longer distances as often as I could find them, and then ran track races.  Somewhere in there some running buddies convinced my that I "HAD" to qualify for and run the 100th Boston Marathon, which got me into marathoning.  I've completed twenty, mostly in the local area, but would suggest that anyone put Boston, New York, and Big Sur on their "to-do" list.  My PR is 2:59 at Tucson, but usually I was a consistent 3:10 - 3:20.

Some other PR's for those interested:
40 yard dash - 4.6 high school
440 yard dash - 51.9 high school
Mile - 5:12 in high school, 4:51 as a master
5K - 16:42 Gettysburg 5K, 16:51 GBMC Father's Day 5K (Providence Road to Cromwell course)
5 Mile - 28:45
Ten Mile - 59:45

Now that I am getting close to the big Five-Oh my turnover is a lot less, times are much slower, and injury more common and recovery takes much, much longer.  But I'm still out there!  See you on the roads, on the track, and on the trail.
