Baltimore Pacemakers Club

Post Jersey Shore Marathon - everyone is happy because IT'S OVER
The Baltimore Pacemakers are all about running in the city of Baltimore. Everyone is welcome to join our group, although because we cater to mid-level and pack-of-the-pack runners, faster runners are likely to run off and leave the group, including the leader of the day's run who knows the directions!
We meet every Wednesday morning at 5:30 AM at the Gilman School track for
speedwork. We
meet in the heat of the summer, when the sun is just peeking over the horizon,
and we meet in the cold, dark hours of the winter when the rest of the world
wonders what has gotten into us, supposedly mature adults who are supposed to
know better. Gilman is at the intersection of Northern Parkway and Roland
Avenue, the entrance to the parking lot is about a quarter mile east of the
intersection on the south side where all the baseball fields are.
We have weekend long runs, mostly inside the city limits of Baltimore. We vary our courses and meeting spots week-by-week, so it is important to get on our mailing list. Now and then we will venture outside the city limits to the Northern Central Railroad Trail (NCR) or to the B&A Trail, but that is only for a change of pace.
We pick destination races and develop training schedules for those events, then travel as a group. At the time of this update (December 2005) we are training for late April/early May marathons, with groups going to The Boston Marathon, New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon, or the Cincinatti Flying Pig Marathon.
In the fall we support the
Baltimore Marathon along with other area races.
If you are looking for fun runs through the city, we may be your club! Check us out. And, just so you will have an idea of what you are getting into, we would like to present the top ten sayings from our illustrious leader, Bob Hilson, who organizes the majority of our group runs:
1) "The clock's running."
2) "We're waiting for YOU."
3) "You got twenty seconds, then it's one you for the half"
4) "Seriously folks, there are no hills on this run."
5) "It's a quarter-quarter-half-triple-half-half-quarter, then a go-for-it and then that's it."
6) "You go right on San Martin...left on Charles...around the lake...right on Hillen...right on Howard...and then we are done. Everybody got that?"
7) "Yo, the run is on for (SATURDAY)...and this is a little seventeen-miler that includes a bonus run!"
8) "Has anyone seen Sandy?"
9) "I could really use a bearclaw right about now."
10) "I hate the NCR Trail...How could anyone run on that thing?"
