2809 Boston Street, in Baltimore's Canton District.


The Event:
 This race is the Maryland RRCA State Championship 5K.  It is a meant to be a fast race on a course designed for fast times, followed by a massive PR celebration party at a venue known for its own fast times!  No Sleepwalkers, no charity fund-raising teams, just a real 5K Race!

Course Information:  The need for speed, hence flat, flat, flat and fast, fast, fast, fast, and fast.  Race starts on Boston Street in front of the Bay Cafe, goes southeasterly then east on Boston, turnaround at Conkling, (3/4 mile) northwest to west on Boston, west on Fleet, (2 miles at Fleet & Washington) south on Anne, east on Aliceanna, southeast on Boston (3 mile at Lighthouse St), to a right turn into the Bay Cafe parking lot for the last 75 meters.

Prizes and Awards: Elite athletes must contact the race director Cash prizes to top 5 open, top masters and top grandmaster male and female as follows: 1st Open: $200, $100, $75, $50, $25.  1st Masters: $75, 1st GrandMaster: $50 YOU MUST BE AN RRCA CLUB MEMBER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CASH PRIZE. Any athlete who has high-school or college-level eligibility will receive a hand-shake instead, and the cash prize will be donated to the Maryland RRCA.

Awards may be double-dipped.  The open winner is also the age-group champion.  If a Masters runner wins the race outright, that runner will receive 1st Open, 1st Master, and age group awards.

A person placing in the top five can also place in the age-group.

Awards three deep in five-year age groups: 15 and under, 16 - 19, 20 - 24, 25 - 29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 45 - 49, 50 - 54, 55 - 59, and 60 +.  The depth of registered participants on August 15 will determine whether the awards go deeper in the most represented age groups, and how deep they will go in five year age groups beyond 65.

Special "Growing old can be the pits" consolation awards: If you are ages 34, 39, 44, 48-49, 53-54, 58-59, or 64-65, finish fourth in your age group (or one removed from any awards if we go deeper than three) and beat everyone else in the race who is older than you

Numerous random prizes, courtesy of Falls Road Running, Merritt Athletic Club memberships, and much, much more.

Registration and entry fees:  The registration fees on this event are stepped up steeply in the final days because we want you to register early so that we can ascertain how deep the awards should go, order appropriately, and also order the proper number of T-shirts.  T-shirts will not be guaranteed to late registrants.  Also, this is an volunteer run event, and we need to ensure that the volunteers have enough lead time to do their volunteer work with data entry, labeling, food ordering, and all the other logistical issues that go along with this type of event.

Entry fees:  Through August 29, 2008: $20 (Mail-in registration closes 8/22)
                     Through August 31, 2008: $25 Online only, online closes 8/29
                     Walk-Up September 1 at Bay Cafe: $30
                     Race Day Registration: $30 - Please, our goal is to encourage everyone
                     plan ahead and register early in order to plan for the party.                  
High school coaches wanting to use this event as a time trial for their cross-country teams receive a special team entry rate.
