Alumni

"You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave...."  Hotel California, The Eagles

The following are members of the staff of Falls Road Running who have passed through the doors and moved onto bigger and better things...but like all families, they are always members, and always welcome to come back.  And on occasion, you will find someone in the shop willing to help but looking just a bit confused; that generally happens when alumni return and volunteer to help without knowing where the new styles have been stocked!

Neville Anderson - track meets, expo's, and special projects.

Dave Brendle – Started with the Falls Road Running Store in the early years, then returned after a two-year hiatus in Philadelphia. While working at Falls Road Running, Dave won the Annapolis Ten-Miler. Left for medical school in Fall of 2004.

Greg Cunningham – Alumni now living in Boulder, CO. Greg really worked for TriSpeed in the early days, but due to his running background could not resist wandering into the showroom and talking running to whoever happened to be there. Greg is now the assistant manager at a Fleet Feet franchise store in Boulder, and is involved in many other activities, including running, coaching, and triathlon.

Laura DeWald - We will not discuss Laura's past accomplishments here.  Suffice it to say that she qualified for the Olympic Trials several years ago.  Just do a Google search on her name and ignore the horse-back rider from Canada.  Laura is really a career massage therapist these days, but we recruited her for part-time duty after she broke an arm running through a stream trying to to win an ultra race outright and had to take some time off from her profession.

Tim Knowlton – Tim is the coach of the official Baltimore Marathon Training Program sponsored by Lifesports. Tim is the coach of the DAC TRACK winter program. He is an RRCA certified coach who routinely competes up and down the mid-Atlantic seaboard. He also worked at Running Wild.

Rory Jenkins - A physical education major at Towson University, Rory was the top finisher in his age group at the 2004 Baltimore Marathon.  Unfortunately for his Boston experience, food poisoning the night before kept him from the starting line.  Talk to Rory before experimenting with strange food before your next big race!

Rory races frequently throughout the Baltimore-Washington region. Some results

Rory is now in the Coast Guard, and is stationed in Alaska.

Claudia Koopmann – apparel sales, expos, and general shop organization. Organization – what better use could you find for good Germanic talent? Claudia wandered into the shop looking for some goods for her running husband and found herself helping out the running community. (Claudia and Jens moved back to Germany in June of 2004)

Sara Mcelroy - Also runs the 800 for the Towson University Tigers’ track and field team . She ranks eighth on Towson’s all-time list for the 800 with a 2:22.05 mark she set in 2004. Sara is also on the school record 4X 800 Relay both indoor and outdoor and ranks 3rd all-time in the Steeplechase..

Melissa Rittenhouse Alumni originally from Ohio, Melissa is currently pursuing her dream of an Olympic Trials qualifier marathon. She finished second in the inaugural Baltimore Marathon, running her boss into the ground on Northern Parkway and never looking back. After her stint in Baltimore, Melissa was invited to join an elite training group in New York. She qualified for the Olympic Trials in 2004.

Krista Schultz an exercise physiologist conducting VO2 Max testing for TriiSpeed, Krista cannot help herself when around the running community and has been found jumping into situations at the Falls Road Running Store in order to help runners when the shop staff has been overwhelmed. Krista regularly competes in regional, national, and international level triathlons and coaches at Goucher College.

Mike Styczynski - a graduate of River Hill High School in Clarksville, Mike was an All-American distance runner at Ithaca College in upstate New York.  The picture on the left shows him being outkicked for the conference mile title in 2003 by the runner in red.  Aside from mercenary work at the store, he has coached cross country and track for his alma-mater and is currently looking for writing jobs on the West Coast.

As of September 2005 Mike found his dream job in his old home town of Sacremento, CA.  Best wishes, and come and see us when your back in Maryland.

CC Ursone - Webmistress. (Right, with Trish Sullivan #1412 at Steamtown Marathon 2002) CC helped me redesign the site, but shouldn't be held responsible for all the remaining broken links that I haven' t fixed yet. CC and her husband host a group run for slow (moderately paced to some speedier folks - Webmistress edit)   people from their home at 923 Stiles Street in Little Italy on Wednesday evenings, leaving at 6:45 and coming back for beer and pizza.  (Jim, did you notice the fact that 1) there's nobody behind us except whomever is in that ambulance?!?!)
Cindy Williams – A nuclear engineer who was a source of help and inspiration when the Falls Road Running Store was just getting started. Cindy has posted a 3:21 marathon but runs these days to stay in shape for skiing.  Cindy has been part of the staff for all Celtic Solstice/Dreaded Druid Hills races since inception.

Tenke Zoltani (left #149)– now running for Columbia University in New York, Tenke had a great high school career in the Baltimore area, but refuses to race for Falls Road Racing as she is currently living in dreadful rear from repercussions from the Columbia coaching staff if they investigate her extra-curricular activities - not all of which have to do with unauthorized racing!
