Ma & Pa Trail (Con't)
This Ma & Pa was the name for the original rail road that went between Maryland & Pennsylvania. Some of the trail travels on the existing rail bed, but most winds thru the Bel Air area in a pleasant setting. There are mile markers, bridges and tunnels to be discovered. One tunnel goes under Rt 24 and was originally put in place for horse traffic which occasionally can be found on the trail.  Enjoy this new found trail and call Phil at work at 410-277-7391 if you need more information.- Phil Anderson, RASAC

McDonogh School
Directions: Take Reisterstown Road NW of the Beltway, turn left onto McDonogh Road.  Take a right into the main entrance of McDonogh, drive up the long drive, and bear to your right to go around to the athletic fields in the back.
Course: Start by running the perimeter of the soccer fields with the fields on your right.  You will pick up a farming lane that you can follow around the open fields, and then cornfields, that will drop down to the creek and enter a wooded area.  If you cross the bridge and make the loop, and then return the same way, it's about six miles.  If you take a left after coming out of the wooded loop you will come out by Coach Sanborn's home and shave a couple of miles off the course.

Upper Trail, NCR Mile 1
Just before the Lime Kiln at the one mile mark of the NCR Trail there is a game path that leads up onto the ridge on the west side of the NCR.  Follow the game trail until it fades and continue uphill.  You will cross a cut, but go through and up until you reach an old logging road. To your left the road descends to a townhouse development half a mile away.  To your right the road climbs up the ridge and descends to stream crossings, offering spectacular views of the Gunpowder River.  When leaves are off the trees you can see other runners making their way along the NCR.  Follow the trail for about a mile and a half until it ends at Phoenix Road, then bear right across the bridge, and pick up a fisherman's trail on your left that will take you back to the NCR.

Rock Creek Park (Montgomery County into DC)
The Mid-Atlantic Dead Runners Society runs from Pierce Mill on Saturday mornings in this huge urban park with miles and miles of woods and trails.  Rock Creek Park is larger than New York's Central Park. See Jeff Reed's site for more info about this and other DC area trail runs.
