Some Known Baltimore Area Group Runs

Here is a partial listing of known Baltimore area group runs - for more see Club pages.

Monday evenings, Daylight Savings Time - 6:30 PM, groups will leave from the Falls Road Running Store to run through the wooded trails of Robert E. Lee Park.  Over ten miles of trails, who knows how long the run may last. Call Falls Road Running 410-296-5050 for current information.

Year round - 6:30 PM, Porter's (Intersection of Cross Street and Riverside Avenue).  The Federal Hill Runners run various routes through the Federal Hill and Inner Harbor Area.  More information about this group is available at the Federal Hill Runners website, or contact Susan Sperry .

Tuesday evenings, Daylight Savings Time--6:00 PM, Gilman Track  Coach Troy Jacobson hosts an open track workout consisting of three to four miles of interval work.  400 meter repeats to mile repeats, depending upon the training schedule.

Fells Point Runners leave from 5K Running on Bond Street at 6:45 year 'round to tour the Inner Harbor area.  Contact Deneen for more details.

Wednesday mornings 5 AM - Bob Hilson of the Pacemakers Club organizes track workouts at Homewood field,  about 8 minute pace

Wednesday evenings , 5:30 PM, year round.  Baltimore Road Runners Hopkins Wednesday Night Group departs from Homewood Field for a six mile out-and-back journey along University Parkway/Roland Avenue to Lake Avenue and return.  Many runners adjourn to PJ's for beer and Pizza afterwards.

The Run/Walk/Eat/Volunteer Club leaves from the parking lot at the Lacrosse Museum and Hall of Fame next to Homewood Field at 6:00 PM, then retires for food and drink.  Contact Mark Brody for more details.

Trent Stroup coaches a track workout at Dulaney High School during the summer evenings.  Trent is also the founder of the Brick Bodies Running Club.

The Misfeets leave from 923 Stiles Street at 6:46 PM in Little Italy, then eat pizza and drink beer later.  Oh, and the ice cream visit to Vacharro's?  No lid, for sure.  Contact Chuck Ursone for more details.

Craig Morrell will organize track workouts at Gilman School at 5:45, primarily designed for faster people.  You should be willing to put in the effort to run sub-18 minute 5K's to run with this group.  All are welcome

Wednesday/Thursday evenings, summertime--The Baltimore Road Runners host a series of low-key summer track meets and cross-country runs.  Check their site for details.

Thursday mornings: 6:00 ish AM a year-round group leaves Meadow Mill for a six to ten miler through Hampden. Contact Donna.

Downtown Track - Paige Adams coordinates an early morning track workout at Dunbar High School. Starts at 7:00 AM.

Thursday evenings:  6:00 PM Baltimore Marathon and 1/2 Marathon track workouts at Gilman School.  Some Team In Training folk also find this series helpful.  Contact Tim

6:00 PM - Baltimore Women's Training Program runs until the start of the Baltimore Women's Classic 5K.  In 2003 the training runs through May and June.  Contact Pat for more details.

6:00 PM, winter months -DAC TRACK: coached by Tim Knowlton. An indoor track workout on one do the regions best indoor venues.  Fee goes directly to the DAC for facility usage.

Saturday mornings:
The NCR Trail Snails run from Ashland at an easy 9 to 12 minute pace early Saturday mornings.  Contact Jordan Feldman .

The Running/Walking/Eating/Volunteer Club leaves from a designated local restaurant at 10:00 AM, and returns at 11:00 for brunch. Contact Mark Brody for details.

Donna Karasic usually organizes a small but merry band of hardy souls for long runs at 7:00 to 7:30 pace on the NCR Trail on Saturdays.  Mid-week they may run early in the morning downtown.

Bob Hilson organizes Pacemaker group runs through out Baltimore City, with Druid Hill Park being one of their favorite areas.Courses will vary on Charles Street, through the Inner Harbor, and out at Loch Raven Reservoir.

The Baltimore Frontrunners usually leave from O'Donnell Square in front of Helen's Garden at 9:00 AM on Saturdays.

Sunday Mornings: The official Baltimore Marathon Training Program, coached by Tim Knowlton, usually meets at the NCR Trail Paper Mill Road Parking lot at 8:00 AM, but will move to earlier start times in hot weather.  Contact Coach Tim

The Baltimore Area Triathlon Club will host a variety of workouts, including swim, bike or running over the weekend.  Contact Kevin Joubert for more details.

Others:
Hollie Kenney coaches beginning runners on the track every other Thursday evening in the mid-town area.

Irv Arter coaches the Misfeets Running Club.

The Metro Harriers conduct a series of cross-country meets throughout many of Baltimore's city parks.  Contact John Lundquist for details.

The Baltimore/Annapolis Hash House Harriers have a different perspective on running.  Many hashers describe their organization as a drinking club with a running problem.  Nonetheless, participating in a hash will give you an entirely different perspective on another facet of the running community.  Contact Chris locally for more info.

The Baltimore Frontrunners is a Canton based running club for the gay and lesbian community in the Baltimore area

The Howard County Striders have their Bagel Runs from Wilde Lake Village Center in Columbia on Saturday mornings at 7:00 AM.  Large crowds and a variety of alternative distances make for a great venue.

The Annapolis Striders have a beginning marathon program called Moore's Marines.  The group trains for a fall marathon in that area southwest of Baltimore.

In Washington DC the Mid-Atlantic Dead Runners run from Pierce's Mill every Saturday morning unless overcome by events.

Charity Groups for Marathons :
Many people have found inspiration and training partners by participating in fund-raising efforts to help combat debilitating or terminal illnesses.  Typically a participant pledges to raise funds for a cause, and having reached that goal, then completes a destination marathon with the training group.  Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, Bermuda, and Disney World are just a few of the destination marathons that these groups target.  They hold informational meeting throughout the area to discuss various marathons.

Anne Lewis coaches the Leukemia Team in Training .  They train primarily at Peerce's Plantation and on the NCR Trail for marathons.
